8 Holiday Road Trip Safety Tips

Dec 10, 2021 | Car Accidents, General Safety, Personal Injury

Happy Holidays! Whatever you celebrate, chances are that you may be driving from Florida into colder weather to ring in the holidays with your loved ones. It’s our hope that when Florida drivers hit the road for up north, they are as prepared as possible to stay safe in what might be a new driving experience for them. Cold weather driving comes with certain variables that require attention, and we want to do our best to keep you safe through it all!

Believe it or not, Christmas Day is the safest holiday to drive on but drunk driving still accounts for as much as 38% of fatal crashes during all holidays, so being vigilant while on the road is a must.

Here are a few driving safety tips to make sure that you make it to your holiday plans safely:

  1. Drive slowly and carefully – especially if it’s snowing or raining
  2. Keep a safe distance between you and the car in front of you – again, especially if the roads are wet. Keeping a little extra distance is a good idea.
  3. Do not text while driving. Even talking on the phone via a hands-free device can be distracting, so keep phone calls to a minimum
  4. Keep your eyes on the road
  5. Always have two hands on the steering wheel
  6. Be aware of your surroundings, including other drivers
  7. If you’re sleepy, find a safe place to pull over and take a break
  8. Have an emergency kit in your car

Also, equally as important, before embarking on any road trip, make sure your car is receiving regular maintenance checks and that your tires are properly inflated. We wish you a happy, safe holidays and a great road trip!Should you find yourself in a car accident, please reach out to Boca Raton car accident law firm Willis Law today for support or give us a call at 561-599-7300.
