Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a charge for the initial consultation?
No. There is never a charge for an initial consultation.

If I sign a contingent retainer agreement with your law firm and change my mind am I liable for any attorney's fees?
If you notify us in writing within three days of signing the contingent retainer agreement there is no charge for attorney's fees.

If I hire your law firm to represent me for my personal injury case does that mean I'm suing?
Not usually. Most personal injury claims are handled without placing the case in the court system. The large majority are settled through a claim process, which is accomplished by an exchange of medical records and other documents after medical treatment is concluded.

If I we are unable to settle my claim, will you litigate my case or do you refer my case to a trial lawyer?
We will not refer your case. Unlike many personal injury law firms, we handle all personal injury cases from initiation to jury trial. John A. Willis is a trial lawyer who has successfully tried numerous bench and jury trials throughout South Florida and is well qualified to litigate your case.

Will you take my case if I am represented by an attorney already?
Yes. However, we caution all prospective clients to make sure that their expectations of their current attorney are not unreasonable and advise them that they may incur two attorney's fees if they discharge their current lawyer without cause.

Do you represent insurance companies?
No. We represent clients who have claims against insurance companies and their policyholders. By not representing insurance companies, we avoid any potential conflicts of interest.

How much is my personal injury claim worth and how long will it take to resolve?
All personal injury cases are different and it is impossible to answer these questions until all the relevant information has been obtained. Any lawyer who tells you what your case is worth when he first speaks to you is usually being less than truthful with you.

Will you meet me away from your offices if I am unable to come to your office for the initial consultation?Yes. If we have made a decision to accept your case we will travel to your location to accomplish the initial signup if you are unable to come to our offices.

Will I be able to speak to an attorney after the initial consultation?
Absolutely. We understand how frustrating it can be when your attorney doesn't return your call promptly. We always direct your call to your attorney if you request to speak to that attorney. If that attorney is not available and his or her paralegal is unable to assist you, the attorney will always return your call that same day or the following morning. If the attorney is unable to do so because of trial or vacation, his or her assistant will call you to advise you of this and attempt to assist you.

Do you represent Spanish speaking clients?
Yes. Our staff speaks Spanish fluently and will be able to answer any questions you have in Spanish.
