John A. Willis was born and raised in New York and received a B.A. from S.U.N.Y. at Stony Brook. After graduating from college Mr. Willis worked for a large insurance company in New York. Mr. Willis moved to Florida in 1991 and received his law degree from Nova Southeastern University Law Center. While attending Nova Law School, Mr. Willis was a member of the Nova Law Review, the Nova Moot Court Society and, in 1993, was the winner of the prestigious Feinrider Moot Court Competition, defeating 85 other competitors. During his last semester of law school Mr. Willis worked full time as a Certified Legal Intern for the Palm Beach County State Attorneys office and successfully prosecuted a half dozen criminal jury trials.
Mr. Willis is admitted to practice law in the State of Florida and the State of New York. He is also admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, The United States Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit and The United States District Courts for the Southern, Middle and Northern Districts of Florida.
Since graduating law school in 1994, Mr. Willis has primarily limited his practice to representing personal injury victims and policyholders against insurance companies. He has handled hundreds of personal injury and insurance matters over the last 15 years, including numerous jury trials in Palm Beach and Broward County, Florida. Mr. Willis' prior experience working for a large insurance company has given him an invaluable insider view when it comes to litigating, negotiating, and resolving cases with insurance companies on behalf of injured individuals and policyholders.
Mr. Willis has been recognized by Lawdragon.com as one of the top 3000 Plaintiff's Attorneys in the U.S. He is featured in Who's Who in American Law , Who's Who in America , Who's Who in the World , America's Registry of Outstanding Professionals , and in 2001 was honored by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation as one of Boca's Raton's Best . Martindale-Hubbell , an internationally recognized attorney rating service, has bestowed their AV rating of ability and ethical standards, the highest available, to Mr. Willis. He is also a member of the exclusive Million Dollar Advocates Forum , whose membership is limited to those select attorneys who have obtained jury verdicts in excess of one million dollars.
Mr. Willis has been recognized by Florida Courts as an expert on reasonableness of attorney's fees and has been retained by Florida attorneys on numerous occasions to testify as an expert in this area. Mr. Willis is the past chair of the Florida Bar Grievance Committee C for the 15th Judicial Circuit. He is a member of the Trial Lawyers Division of the Florida Bar, The American Association for Justice, The Florida Justice Association, The Palm Beach County Justice Association, The Palm Beach, South Palm Beach Bar Associations, and Broward County Bar Associations, and the Parkland Chamber of Commerce.
Mr. Willis is married to former Miami Dolphins Cheerleader and FAU graduate Lori Willis. They live in Parkland, Florida with their two boys. Mr. Willis enjoys politics, playing golf, tennis, and working on computers and is avid fan of the Miami Hurricanes, Miami Dolphins, Florida Panthers and Florida Marlins. Mr. Willis and his wife are involved in charitable activities for their church as well as for the Multiple Sclerosis Society, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and the National Psoriasis Foundation.
